Why Measure Potency?

An accurate measure of the active ingredient in your product is critical for doctors and patients to know so that the proper dosage may be determined. As with any medicine, improper dosage may have a detrimental effect. While a plant may be bred to increase the potency of specific cannabinoids, processing of the material, including drying methods or cooking, may shift the levels of the active ingredients.

Our lab uses sophisticated High Performance Liquid Chromatography separation and detection techniques to accurately quantify the level of THC and other cannabinoids in the plant, extracts, and products.

What is Potency Analysis?

Cannabis chemistry is very complex. It contains over 400 chemical compounds, with about 80 unique to the Cannabis plant (cannabinoids). Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most pharmacologically active component. Many of the other cannabinoids may prove to be of medicinal value.

Because cannabis is a complicated mixture of components, sophisticated analytical techniques are required to accurately measure how much is present.
